| Broken Coal Production Logo |
'Broken Coal Productions' was founded by myself in early 2012, as I found myself needing an identity for the work I was regularly producing (short films, music videos ect.) I built this small production company up along with my brother who's sister company hosts websites for various companies. Together we produce promotional films and websites for many different companies, including the Zumba franchise, theatre schools and The Scout Association.
As I work freelance with many different individuals and companies producing a wide range of films from dramas and documentaries to feature films and music videos, I involved myself in working as a producer alongside directing. I have been able to fund projects and rent out an extensive range of equipment (dollies, cranes, cameras ect) and enjoy my job as producer.
As I am using my own production company equipment to produce 'Fallen Grace', it made sense to use my own logo I created on Photoshop as the groups production logo, as Tom Bailey and I already have worked together under this company on many different productions.
The Design
I designed the 'Broken Coal Productions' logo on Photoshop CS5 and decided to stick to a monochromatic style, both because it is in fitting with the cinema film reel theme, and also because the basic design could replicate easily onto various different mediums (invoices, t-shirts, websites ect). Black and white is commonly associated with professionalism, which is also an idea I wanted to connote in my logo.
The choice for the name is obscure, like many production company names are such as 'Lionsgate' and '20th Century Fox'. The thinking behind the name is that coal is one of the largest sauces of electricity in our generation and is reliable, and fits budgets easily, it is also more efficient when broken, hence the name 'Broken Coal'.
The 'film - photography' design in a handwritten design adds a personal touch to my work, and also anchors the media text and explains what the company produces.
The logo itself for Broken Coal Productions is a circle (the coal) with a line running through (symbolising the break in 'Broken Coal', and fits well with the name of the production company.
